How to Meet People

A great place to start meeting people on the road is at RV parks. You’ll find families with small children, older couples who have traveled the world together, and solo travelers who are on their own unique journey. It won’t be hard to find an individual or group with common interests or you can go ahead and befriend various types of people. This is actually quite easy as long as you make an effort to put yourself out there. You can’t stay holed up in your RV all the time and expect to make friends. Spend some time outdoors, set up chairs outside of your camper, and create welcoming space for socializing. You can even set up a table for playing cards or board games and enjoying snacks with other travelers in the area.

Another excellent way to meet people is to join a group of like-minded enthusiasts. There are several organizations to choose from, both formal and more structured ones. Many of these have an internet presence, which allows you to get in touch, trade traveling tips, and share road stories with other nomads. In fact, some of these organizations also offer discounts and other benefits and resources you’ll find helpful when you’re traveling the country in your RV.

You can use social media as a way to find others in your area, too. Look up hashtags and location check-ins on Instagram and other apps to see who’s posted recently from your campground. You can shoot them a message and strike up a conversation. If it goes well, you can meet up and go for a hike, grab a cup of coffee, or any other activity you both enjoy.

Build a Friendship

Once you’ve found someone you’d like to build a friendship with, you’ll need to spend some time getting to know each other. While you’re staying at the same campsite or visiting the same attractions, invite your friend over to talk. You can share a meal, make s’mores, or play fun games. It’s also helpful to exchange travel itineraries to see if your paths will cross again in the near future. You can share stories of your previous experiences and bond over the similarities. Check out each other’s RVs and exchange decor tips. It’s totally up to you how you go about building a friendship, it all comes down to being social and sharing about yourself.

Stay in Touch

When the time comes for you and your new friend to part ways, you should make it a point to exchange contact information if you haven’t yet. As we mentioned earlier, social media is a great tool for communicating and that includes staying in touch. You can follow their story online and see all the new adventures they’re going to be up to once you go your separate ways.

If one or both of you is heading back to your permanent home, you can discuss becoming pen pals. It’ll be fun to send and receive postcards from all the new places you’ll be visiting. Of course, there’s always the possibility that you’ll meet again, so you shouldn’t take your budding friendship for granted. It might be tough to maintain a long-distance bond, but it’s well worth it.
