Easy Camping Recipe: Apple Cider Pork Chops

Apple Cider Pork Chops


  • 4 or 5 fresh sprigs of thyme
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced
  • 1 white onion, sliced
  • 4 boneless pork loin chops
  • seasoning salt, salt, and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3/4 cup apple cider or apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced


  • In a frying pan big enough for hold all four pork chops, melt butter over medium heat. Add apples and onion slices. Sauté until the apples begin to lightly brown, but don’t let them cook to mush.
  • Remove apples from the pan (onions can stay in), and set aside.
  • While the apples and onions are sautéing, pat the pork chops dry with a paper towel and sprinkle on the salt, pepper, and seasoning salt.
  • Turn the heat to medium high and add olive oil to the pan. When it’s shimmery (but not smoking), add in the pork chops in with the onions. Brown the pork chops evenly on both sides and add the apple cider, vinegar, garlic, and sprigs of thyme.
  • Place a lid on the frying pan and cook until meat thermometer reads about 155. Add the apples back in, put the lid back on the pan, and cook until meat thermometer reads 160.
  • Remove thyme sprigs and discard. Serve pork chops with apple slices and onions, and enjoy!
